Heavy Duty Tow Truck Assistance

In order to avoid needing a heavy duty tow truck, there are a few basic rules in life – keep your gas tank full on and keep your head down. The driver of a semi truck ignored the second rule and took the Lapper overpass at full speed, jamming the excavator on his flatbed into the bottom of the overpass. The impact was incredible and required a heavy duty tow truck. Steel sparked against concrete. It was the kind of scene you just can’t invent. It was a tight fit, The excavator jammed against the overpass in Lapeer. It blocked traffic for hours.

The Byers Wrecker team came with a fleet of heavy duty tow trucks including the heavy wrecker, sweeper and a flatbed. To keep things simple they first tried taking the air out of the tires. Unfortunately, the excavator was really jammed in under the overpass. The Byers team were forced to take the air out of the hydraulic line to bring the arm down.

Heavy Duty Tow Truck in Lapper Details

A heavy duty tow truck was needed to unstick an excavator traveling through Lapeer, Michigan. The heavy duty tow truck company was called by the semi driver who had the excavator riding on the back of his big rig. The excavator’s arm was left high. It became stuck under the overpass on the way through Lapeer

Over tow truck operators came to the accident site to find an excavator jammed under an underpass. The heavy duty tow truck operators assessed the situation. The heavy duty tow truck operators walked around the scene. The heavy duty tow truck operators first thought to deflate the tires. They deflated the set of rear right side tires. The tow truck operators then deflated the set of rear left side tires. They tried to move the excavator. It was jammed in tight and there was no space between the arm-head of the excavator and the bridge. They then determined to release the hydraulic lines to bring the arm down. They didn’t want to have to remove the excavator from the truck. Carefully, the tow truck operators removed some air from the system. The arm released slightly. The heavy duty tow truck operators backed the semi out a bit. They then removed a little more air and moved the semi a little further. This went on for over 3 hours.

The tow and recovery occurred in Lapeer, Michigan. The Byers team used four heavy duty tow trucks including a heavy wrecker, a sweeper and a flatbed. Also, after some examination, the Lapper overpass appears to be undamaged.
